TOC Stream

An alternative to a purely academic pathway.

The Technical Orientation Curriculum (TOC) is designed for learners with specific learning disabilities or mild to medium intellectual or cognitive disabilities.

Learners who are struggling in the academic mainstream may be channeled into this stream from the year in which they turn 13. The programme is designed with a 1-year preparation course followed by 4 years of vocational training as well as differentiated learning experiences in languages, Information Technology, mathematical skills and Life Orientation. Learners, after being offered experience in 4 working areas, will choose a single work area to specialise in, in the last three years of the programme.

Office Management

Early Child Development

Agricultural Studies

Consumer Studies: Food Production

Following the final year (referred to as Year 4) the learner will have the equivalent of a General School Leaving Certificate (Grade 9). This will allow him or her to choose to do one of the following:

Complete a further 3 years at school with us to earn an endorsed National Senior Certificate.
Begin an internship year at school with opportunities to work in the real world and to earn additional certificates in other areas e.g. First Aid; (This phase is called the World of Work year (WOW).
Enrol at a TVET college to pursue further technical qualifications.
Enter the job market.

We are excited to be offering this alternate stream into the Little Oaks and Oaks Private Academy’s schooling system and look forward to better meeting the needs of our learners and preparing them for productive working lives.

Study Skills Workshop

The workshop aims to help learners develop their study skills by understanding the type of learner each of them is, practising time management strategies and using improved methods of study and will be presented by a well-qualified, passionate and enthusiastic facilitator.
